What is an endodontist? The General population was asked if they knew what an endodontist was and very few people knew what they were. In fact, most general dentists, are attempting to do there own root canals. Last Census, 80% of root canals were done by general dentists. What the general public does not know is that a root canal performed by a specialist, or endodontist, can be 10-20% more successful. They have specialized equipment, such as microscopes, and special files that make the procedure more thorough, faster and less painful, if not intraoperatively(during procedure), than peri-operatively(after procedure).
